Lots of girls consider themselves or other people "geeks" or "nerds." WHY? A nerd is someone who reads a lot, usually gets A's and B's, and is very smart. Since when did being smart become an insult?
A geek is normally someone who isn't a modern fashionista, isn't very athletic, and doesn't particularly have to be smart. They normally enjoy video games and comics. Why? Why is not being athletic an insult? Like you may not be good at Art, but good at singing, some people may not be good at athletics, but good at something else.
Nerds and geeks are teased mercilessly, all the time. The "cool kids" won't hang out with nerds or geeks. Why? Because they may be socially inept. Or smarter. Or faster. We do NOT need to judge people by how they look!
Don't judge a book by its cover. I know many of you have heard this before. Let me give you an example. If you found a book that had flowers, sparkles, and rainbows on it, you may pick it up. You may say, "Ooh! I bet this will be about something magical and interesting." But it may be just the opposite. Inside the book would have knights slaying dragons, and a lava monster knocking down a princess's tower. See? You thought the book was one thing, but it was something totally different.
If someone dressed with an over-sized baggy sweater and some sweats, you couldn't say they were sloppy and unorganized. You would have to get to know them, just like the book.
I hope after reading this you guys reconsider calling people or yourselves nerds or geeks. It's not right. :(
